Guatemala, February 10 (TASR) - At least 51 people died after a bus carrying 75 passengers plunged off a highway bridge into a polluted ravine in the capital of Guatemala. Survivors were trapped in the wreckage, TASR writes, citing reports by the AP and The Guardian.
Authorities there said 36 men and 15 women were among the victims, whose bodies will be sent to a local morgue set up for the accident. According to the AP, several children also died in the accident.
The bus was traveling on a busy route to and from Guatemala when it fell off the Puente Belice bridge in the north of the metropolis. According to rescue workers, the driver lost control of the bus and collided with several small vehicles before falling into the ravine.
